About this tool
Gravitational potential energy of a mass at height h above a reference, in a uniform gravitational field.
Formula
PE = m · g · h
Worked example
5 kg at 20 m on Earth → PE = 5 × 9.81 × 20 = 981 J.
Notes
g ≈ 9.81 m/s² near Earth's surface. On the Moon g ≈ 1.62 m/s²; on Mars ≈ 3.71 m/s². For large heights use Newton's general law instead.
