About this tool
A board-foot is 1 inch × 12 inches × 12 inches of lumber. This calculator totals board-feet across multiple boards.
Formula
BF_per_piece = (thickness_in × width_in × length_ft) / 12. total = BF_per_piece × quantity.
Worked example
2"×6"×8' board → (2 × 6 × 8) / 12 = 8 BF per board. 10 boards → 80 BF.
Notes
Use nominal dimensions (a 2×4 is sold as 2×4 even though actual is ~1.5×3.5). Hardwood lumber is priced per BF.
