About this tool
Convert a roof's rise and run into the three common pitch representations: X/12 ratio, angle in degrees, and slope percentage.
Formula
pitch = rise/run · 12 (as X/12). angle = atan(rise/run) · 180/π. slope% = rise/run · 100.
Worked example
Rise 6, run 12 → 6/12 pitch, 26.57°, 50 % slope.
Notes
Common pitches: low slope <4/12, conventional 4–9/12, steep >9/12. Above 6/12 typically requires roof jacks or fall protection.
